Frequently asked questions about renting on Koh Samui

Yes. A scooter requires a category A licence, international or Thai. Police on Samui check regularly and the fine is ฿500–1,000, but the fine is not the real issue: bikes on the island only carry compulsory insurance, covering medical costs up to ฿30,000 — it does not pay for vehicle damage or third-party claims. Without a licence, all of that after an accident is on you.

Many rental shops on the island ask for it, but it is a bad practice: without your passport you cannot fly or deal with a bank, and in a dispute it becomes leverage against you. We work with a cash deposit only.

Around ฿40–45 per litre at a proper station. Roadside pumps and bottles cost more but help when the station is far. A full scooter tank is about ฿200, a compact car ฿1,200–1,500.

Do not leave the scene, call the police and message us straight away. A police report is needed for any medical insurance claim. Cars carry commercial insurance, which covers third-party damage when you are at fault. Bikes have no such cover: the compulsory policy pays medical costs only, and repairs and damages are handled separately.

One month for a monthly rental, two months on a long-term contract from three months. It is returned at check-out less unpaid bills and any damage.

The rate is ฿4–8 per kilowatt. A studio with air conditioning runs ฿1,500–3,000 a month, a house with several units ฿3,000–6,000, and a pool villa ฿8,000 or more because the pump runs daily.

The electricity rate and who reads the meter, the deposit return terms, who repairs appliances, the right to extend at the same rate, and an inventory with photos taken on the move-in date.

Yes, though there is less choice and the deposit is usually higher. Say so up front — if the owner finds out after you move in, it almost always costs you the deposit.

Yes, we charge a commission for the search: vetted options, negotiating with the owner, going through the contract and support for the whole rental period. We quote the amount before we start — no surprises later.

Within a working day, usually sooner. For anything urgent use WhatsApp — that is where we respond fastest.

Send a request or message us on WhatsApp — we confirm availability for your dates and send payment details. A booking deposit secures the reservation: in high season usually 50% of the price, with the balance due 7–14 days before check-in or handover. It is separate from the security deposit on the property or vehicle — sometimes the amounts match, sometimes not; we state the terms for each property when confirming.

The prepayment takes the property or vehicle off the market for your dates — without it an owner will not hold anything, especially in high season. To make paying comfortable: before you transfer, you get written confirmation with dates and amount; if you are not on the island yet, we show the property on a video call; every payment is confirmed with a document.
